Fall Workshops/Classes for Youth Ages 6-18
This fall we are offering after school STEAM courses for kids on Monday, and Thursdays from 3:45 – 5:15. We are also offering literacy courses on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Monday course- registering through WestView Learning by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org Courses are each 6 weeks long, which allows us to offer two sets of courses this fall: Set 1 from September 19 – October 31 (no class Thanksgiving), and Set 2 from November 7 – December 12.
Lego Builders – Ages 6-10. $100 – 6 sessions (offered twice) registeri through WestView Learning by emailing email@example.comCourses are each 6 weeks long, which allows us to offer two sets of courses this fall: Set 1 from September 19 – October 31 (no class Thanksgiving), and Set 2 from November 7 – December 12.
Building kits or free style with lego is a ‘happy’ place for many youngsters – and building together with peers add another layer of enjoyment and imagination and social learning. Students will be given theme building challenges in this 6 week lego adventure – with a special kit or two being unveiled!!
Thursday courses – register through Cowichan Community Centre – registration opens with the Fall booklet’s release on August 18th. Courses are each 6 weeks long, which allows us to offer two sets of courses this fall: Set 1 from September 22 – October 27, and Set 2 from November 3 – December 8.
Jr. Engineers – Ages 6-10 $138 – 6 sessions. (offered twice)
Kids love to create solutions to quirky problems using logic, problem solving and an interesting variety of materials. The six sessions have one major problem to overcome through collaboration, teamwork, and creativity! Participants will learn how to communicate ideas and needs in this action packed activity.
Block Coding and Python – Ages 8-14. $120 – 6 sessions (offered twice)
Suitable for Kids with some or no knowledge of the popular block coding environments such as Minecraft, Roblox, Scratch, and Swift. Participants will be divided into those who wish to explore/extend their block coding skills and those who wish to learn Python. A form link will be sent to participants the week prior to the first class to identify experience and next steps for each registrant.
Stop Motion Studio Ages 8-14 $120 – 6 sessions (offered twice)
Create amazing movie shorts using stop motion and your choice of media. After exploring different techniques, students will be challenged to create a commercial moving from story board, through filming, and to final editing.

Writing/Art Journaling Ages 12+ (yes adults too) 2:00 – 3:30 beginning October 6
Participants will work with our art instructor Joan, and writing instructor Tasha, to explore the art of multi-modal journalling to organize thoughts, capture memories, and set goals for the future. Techniques shared can be used for work, study, and personal reflection.

Resume Writing, Cover Letter, Digital Collection – Ages 10-18, $150 – 3 sessions September 16, 23, 30 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Participants will learn the art of presenting their experiences and goals in resume format, and supporting their resume with sample letter writing and creating a targeted visual/video presentation sharing past accomplishments. Students are encouraged to bring with them pictures/video clips and copies of communication with prior employers.
The Art & Process of Writing – Ages 10-18, $320 – 8 sessions October 14 – December 9, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Friday Evening Board Games Ages 10-15 registering through WestView Learning by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
These bi-weekly evenings offer hands on socially ‘present’ game experience with a variety of board games, card games that are part of todays family and young adult culture. Please contact Heather directly if you would like to learn more. This program will be offered depending upon community interest. Confirmed times and costs will be the result of a community survey.
