WestView Learning offers programs for adults and children at the Island Savings Centre in Duncan.  Registration is through Island Savings Centre (CVRD) either online or at the box office. Classes are grouped in the categories listed below:

 The Cloud and You!

 Learn to Use the “Cloud” Photo & Document Storage and System Backup!  $25/class

A digital ‘cloud’ is simply a business that owns lots of computers designed to store specific types of application files and also back up any digital information. Learn how to transfer your files safely between your digital devices, and use the storage features to back up your files specific to the Windows/Android devices or the Apple Devices.

Managing Photos 

Digitally Share Your Special Photos 

Learn how you can present and share you 2017 photos with family and friends through options like photo books, eBooks, and online options. Bring along your photos, an iPad or laptop, and explore the easy options for editing, presenting and sharing your photo collection.  Suggestions for backing up photo collections will also be explored.

Intro to Apple Computers

This class is designed for the relatively new user to an Apple Computer. Learn how to manage your desktop, files, and common Apple applications.

Windows Computers

Introduction to Windows 10 

Learn the basic features/landscape of Microsoft’s Windows 10.  Personalize your system, take control of your account, manage updates, and learn the basic applications and skills necessary to search the web, send/receive email, add applications, customize your desktop/start menu.

Going Deeper with Windows 10

Extend your understanding of different browsers/options and manage multiple windows.  Learn to organize, access, and share your photos and videos. Personalize your computer account to optimize your Windows 10 experience.

New to the iPad? This course takes you from opening the box to learning the basic features of the device.  Learn the core features, gestures, and which features best suit your needs in this very basic course.  3 Classes

Managing you iPhone, iPad and Mac Computer

Frustrated with managing multiple Apple devices in your household. Join us for a session to help take the mystery out of taming the communication and repetition between devices.

Turn your iPad into a mobile office All-In-One – NEW!!

Suitable for university students and employees! Learn the basic features of Apple’s powerful trio of office apps that come installed on your iOS10 iPad or as a free download for iPads activated after September 2013. Learn how to create documents, posters, presentations, slideshows, and spreadsheets. Increase the functionality of your iPad by exploring scanning apps that allow you to edit documents, fax documents, save documents to the cloud, and one of them will even read the document back to you. Please contact the instructor if you are unable to bring an iPad to the class and one will be available for you to use.2 2-hour classes

New to the Samsung ( Android) phone or tablet? This course takes you from opening the box to learning the basic features of the device.  Learn the core features gestures and which features best sit your needs in this very basic course.  3 Classes

Apple Office Suite:  Pages, Keynote, Numbers      

Apples Office Suite is free for most Computer and iPads.  Come and learn how simple and powerful these applications are.  Learn to create documents, posters, spreadsheets, charts, etc.  Bring along your own laptop and/or iPad to class with photos you might wish to use in projects. Please ensure you have preloaded the applications on your computer/iPad.  If you require the loan of a device during classes, please contact the instructor prior to the class.

Introduction to MS Office – Part 1     

MS Office is a powerful office suite by Microsoft that is commonly used in business and in government.  Learn how to maneuver between the basic screens in the 4 most commonly used programs of the suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Learn to create documents in each application and format the contents.

Participants should have access to a laptop loaded with MS Office to bring to class and to use for practice assignments between classes.  The instructor has a limited number of laptops to loan during instruction with prior arrangements if contacted prior to the start of this course.

Introduction to MS Office – Part 2  

Once you have taken the first part of this course and become familiar with the common tools, and layout of the 4 main applications in Microsoft’s office suite, you are now ready to learn how to create and format more complex documents. Continue your introduction to the four applications used commonly in business today:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 

Participants should have access to a laptop loaded with MS Office to bring to class and to use for practice assignments between classes.  The instructor has a limited number of laptops to loan during instruction with prior arrangements if contacted prior to the start of this course.

WordPress for Beginners

WordPress is much more than blogging or a simple website – it has developed into a very robust and easy to use Content Management system that allows individuals and business to  share on the internet. Creating your own personal WordPress is a great way to share your personal interests with family, friends and further afield.  Learn how to set up and customize your own installation of a WordPress.  Learn to manage pictures, and files as well as managing a blog.  Bring along a laptop to this workshop.

WordPress for Home Business

Dig deeper into the options that WordPress offers to be a primary source of information, and potential eCommerce site for your business. Learn the options for communicating with your customers through posts, articles, and newsletters through effective plugins.  Explore how to set up a gallery, catalogue to showcase your wares!  Bring along a laptop to this workshop.  Learn the basic of SEO (Search Engine Optimization).Please contact the instructor if you wish to borrow a laptop.

Facebook Fun – Communicate with Family and Friends

Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends. Come and learn how it behaves on different devices (tablets, laptops) and how you can ‘tame’ the features to suit your needs.  Bring along your own laptop/tablet – and your password/user name if you have not already set up an account.  If you have not set up an account, please phone the instructor prior to the class and you will be advised as to the information you need for the class! 2 Sessions
