BC is moving ahead with making changes to the current AFU structure. The changes are to come into effecct on April1st, 2027.
April 28th, 2026 Leslie Van Dusen, Principal of Fawkes Academy, and John McGregor, Executive Director of Fawkes Academy Society, met with us to share what was currently known from the Ministry.
- New system provides two funding streams:
- BC Children and Youth Benefit
- BC Disability Supplement
- New system is activated as of April 1, 2027
- Parents of children involved in the At Home Program are being contacted first by their social worker and their priority is being established
- Parents of children currently receiving AFU funding will be contacted next
- WVL parents who have had the AFU funding renewed in the months of May are receiving letters from the ministry and a pro-rated amount – 11 months vs normal 12 months
